Filming of "The Hunger Games" begins this Thursday in Shelby. That town joins Hildebran to create District 12 which is the area where the film's heroine lives. The 150 person crew will be joined by as many as 600 extras for the exterior shoot that will run through June 2nd. News-13 visited Shelby to catch some of the crew hard at work. Many of the extras hired for the 75 million dollar film come from the mountains and the upstate. Locals are excited about what this means for their hometown. Part of the film is also being made in Asheville.
